Easter and Excavation...do they go together?

Easter Sunday was a bit different this year for my family. Our overflow pipe out of our pond was stopped up and so my neighbors and myself layed about 300 feet of eight-inch pipe through my backyard.

One may say, "Wow, what terrible timing," but in fact there was something refreshing about being down in the trench working while pondering the freedom my soul experiences because of Easter.

I actually felt refreshed and relaxed while wrapping up this project. Easter became more real, more organic. If anything, my time here in Iowa has helped me to appreciate the Earth and connection with the land. There are many times that I go down to feed the horse and just take my time walking down there to hear the frogs, or just look out over the landscape. My other pic gives a snapshot of this, where we were flyin some kites out in our front yard about a week ago. Another thing about Iowa...it is the third leading state for wind energy...

So Easter and excavation do mix in my book. They both helped me to have some time to be down in the Earth working and thinking....ever-thankful to live in a place that offers space and solitude and a chance to connect with the land.
